So Messed Up, I Want You Here

Just before the sessions that produced March 16-20, 1992, Uncle Tupelo opened eight shows for Teenage Fanclub, mostly on the east coast. One of those gigs was at Toad's Place, New Haven, CT, on March 2, 1992. Tupelo finished their set by inviting Teenage Fanclub on stage to jam through a gloriously messy, but fun version of “I Wanna Be Your Dog.” This was a song UT demoed the previous year, but that was a script-flipping acoustic cover. This is far closer to the original. While I expected Farrarmageddon guitar, it's actually Norman Blake who provides the fireworks. Sadly, this was one of the final shows with OG drummer and Tupelo glue guy Mike Heidorn, whose final performance as a touring member of Uncle Tupelo was April 23 at Mississippi Nights in St. Louis.
